Dear Michelle,
Thank you for taking the Story of My Life questionnaire online. Generally, I do a personal interview with the people I work with and try to tie the “raw scores” from the computer in with the person’s life experiences. In this case I don’t have the benefit of the personal interview, so the results will not be as personal as usual … But here goes…
The Story of My Life (Millennial Edition) guide that you wrote helped us understand some life themes that stand out as being important in your life. The Story only gives us some preliminary information and is not intended to be a complete report of your life. There will always be much more to us than any one guide can uncover. I will share with you some of the observations made through the Story. This information may or may not be completely correct. That’s for you to decide.
One area of life that the Story looks at is our RELATIONSHIPS. There are two themes that are used to discuss relationships, one looking at individual one-on-one relationships, and the other addressing relationships within a group.
You scored very high in the INTER-PERSONAL theme that describes a person's tendency for developing trusting, one-to-one relationships. Those who are strong in this theme are perceived as friendly and approachable. They can instinctively recognize and appreciate the uniqueness of each relationship, and they affirm the goodness they see in others. Some qualities that you may possess include: a respect for each person as an individual; a desire to get to know people in order to be helpful to them; a non-judgmental stance in relationships; an ability to support others on an emotional level, an ability to build friendship in a short period of time.
You scored very high in the INTER-RELATIONAL theme that describes a person’s ability to initiate and maintain good relationships with others within a group. Those high on this theme are liked by their peers. They bring people together and make each member feel a part of the group or team. They always speak to others, and they have a positive attitude. People probably enjoy having you in their groups, because you recognize the needs of others in the group. You know how to put your owns needs aside to help other with theirs. You likely are: able to relate easily with people of different groups and ages; generous with your time and self; able to reach compromises and build consensus; and a person who wants people to work together as a team.
A second major area that the Story looks at is LEADERSHIP, not just in the sense of being elected or selected as a leader, but also in the sense of the everyday ways we influence others for good and make a difference in the world. There are some questions that the Story asks when looking at leadership:
“How are you a leader?” This HOW theme helps us understand the ways a person sets and achieves goals. When this theme is high, the leader will help people generate their goals and then focus the group’s energies on the appropriate activities to accomplish those goals. People who are strong in this theme know that they can make a difference. They spontaneously build community. Your good score indicates that you know how to take initiative and make things happen. Many things go into how a person leads, and an interwiew would be helpful to be more specific, but some elements of how you might lead include the possibilities that you: can name your feelings and own having them; are able to set your goals, maintain them, and follow through; are able to pick yourself up and start over again when you fall; are well organized and know how to get things done; enjoy discovering new things and asking the deeper questions about life. These are all ways in which you might make a positive impact in other people’s lives.
“Will you be a leader?” The WILL theme describes the person’s motivations to grow and achieve. The strength of internal motivations, including the person's sense of mission, and external motivations, including his/her sense of hope for the future, are good indicators of this theme. Those, like you, michelle, who score very high on the WILL theme are steadfast in their faith and receive satisfaction from seeing other people's lives made better by their actions. They want to become highly respected leaders, and they enjoy being the best in what they do. Scoring well in this theme probably indicates: you are a person of principles, and you stick to them; you are willing to go out of yourself for the growth of others; you can help others build confidence for their future, and you have a positive, hopeful, optimistic attitude about life and the future.
michelle, another area the Story looks at is our SPIRITUALITY, how our experience of being in relationship with God may affect our lives. This area of spirituality is also divided into two areas, -- Belief and Mission.
You scored well in the BELIEF theme, which describes the person’s sense of being in relationship with God and how that personal relationship affects their daily living. Those very high in this theme, as you are, readily recognize God's presence in a variety of settings, especially in relationships with other people. They find themselves strengthened by times of prayer and personal reflection. God and their faith are priorities for them. I would suspect that much of your life is centered on Christ and the values of God’s reign. You likely: are attuned to the movements of God; have a sense of being connected to others through their spirituality; find your prayer giving perspective to life; and understand that God is our strength.
You also scored well in the MISSION theme, which describes the person’s ability to minister and help others in a religious context. Those high in this theme have a sense of being a disciple of Jesus and carrying on his work. They know how to put their faith into action in meaningful ways. They see themselves themselves as instruments of God's love and peace. Some of these characteristics will likely apply to you: you enjoy making a difference in the world for God; you show a commitment and dedication to the Church; you share a love with others that is beyond your own; discussing religious issues comes naturally for you; you sense Jesus is present when you show compassion to others.
Finally, the Story looks at some issues of LIFESTYLE, and how a person might be attracted to religious values in his or her life. You scored well in this Lifestyle theme. People high in this theme generally see importance in giving one's life for something larger than oneself to make a significant difference in the world. They enjoy the connections with others in a religious context. When this theme is high, as it was for you, the person has the potential for enhancing community and building strong loyalties. You likely strive for the “moreness” of life. It may indicate how satisfying life as a religious might be. Commitment and loyalty are probably highly valued in your life. Typically a high score in this area indicates that: belonging to a community (of friends) is important to you; people are much more important to you than things; simplicity in life is something you strive for; and you like being identified as a ’good person’ -- as honest, caring, and committed.
michelle, these results would be more refined and accurate with a personal interview, but I hope they are helpful to you in your discernment. Overall, I would say that there is very strong evidence that you should continue to pursue the possibilities of leadership and service within the church. You definitely have some strong talent for spiritual and church leadership, and you are interested in sharing yourself in church leadership.
Whatever path you choose, though, please use these talents for the good of others and the Church. They are not yours to keep.

The Story of My Life (Millennial Edition) guide that you wrote helped us understand some life themes that stand out as being important in your life. The Story only gives us some preliminary information and is not intended to be a complete report of your life. There will always be much more to us than any one guide can uncover. I will share with you some of the observations made through the Story. This information may or may not be completely correct. That’s for you to decide.
